Program Description
Reality isn't always what it seems! At the Museum of Illusions in Vienna, you'll discover a world of fascinating optical illusions, interactive installations and experiments that will put your senses to the test. It's a place where fun meets science, and seemingly impossible phenomena become part of reality.
During your visit, you'll explore 12 illusion rooms, where you'll discover just how easily your eyes and sense of balance can be tricked. Find out what it's like to walk on the ceiling in the Upside Down Room, watch your companions appear to grow and shrink in the Ames Room, and make your way through the Vortex Tunnel, where the spinning surroundings will put your balance to the test.
You'll also encounter holograms, optical illusions and images that appear three-dimensional. Step inside a walkable kaleidoscope, discover glowing rotating discs and explore the Colour Room. You can also experience the Following Eyes installation featuring Empress Sisi, whose eyes seem to follow you as you move.
There will be plenty of opportunities to take unusual photos! At an installation inspired by Vienna's Majolikahaus, designed by Otto Wagner, you can capture a photo that makes it look as though you're climbing the building's façade. You'll also learn how the human brain interprets shapes, distances, colours, light and movement, and discover why you can't always trust your own eyes.
The Museum of Illusions Vienna is a great choice for families with children and groups of friends alike. Its interactive exhibits encourage experimentation, discovery and shared fun, while the photos you take will make unique souvenirs of your visit.
