Hiking tour - Profitis Ilias Mountain

You will set off on a scenic hiking experience in Rhodes that combines gentle trekking, nature and history in one well-balanced day. It’s a great option for all fitness levels – including beginners – and a chance to discover a quieter, greener side of the island, away from busy tourist areas.

Your journey begins in the traditional village of Salakos, located at the foothills of Mount Profitis Ilias. After a short briefing, you will follow well-maintained paths leading through a dense forest of pine, cypress and ilex trees, offering natural shade and a comfortable atmosphere even on warmer days. The gradual incline makes the walk enjoyable while still giving a sense of achievement.

As you make your way up, you will enjoy panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, nearby islands and the Turkish coastline. The combination of fresh mountain air and wide-open landscapes makes this route appealing even to more experienced hikers.

At a peaceful meadow, you will take a moment to relax surrounded by nature before discovering unique landmarks from the Italian period on the island. You will see the distinctive Elafos and Elafina buildings from 1929 and 1932, known for their Alpine-style architecture – a surprising sight in a Mediterranean setting. You will also pass by the elegant Villa de Vecchi and visit the Byzantine church of Profitis Ilias, where history and atmosphere come together.

After a short break and a traditional snack, you will begin your descent back to Salakos. Throughout the tour, your experienced hiking leader will ensure a comfortable pace, share local insights and capture photos of your experience, which are included in the price.
