Program Description
Some cities are best known for a few famous landmarks. Toledo is different - here, the journey between them becomes part of the experience. The narrow streets of its historic centre lead you from peaceful monastery cloisters, through a former synagogue, to a church housing a work by El Greco. During this trip from Madrid, you will discover Toledo's most important sights and then have time to explore the city at your own pace.
After arriving, you will set off on a guided walking tour of Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you make your way through the historic centre, you will discover traces of the cultures that shaped the city over the centuries - from its architecture to places connected with its religious and artistic heritage.
The tour includes the San Juan de los Reyes Monastery. Its cloisters are one of the most distinctive features of the complex, while the monastery itself is closely connected with the history of the Spanish monarchs. Take a closer look at its details, which reveal the character of Toledo's architecture.
Further along the route, you will enter the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. Although it is now a museum, its interior offers an insight into the different influences found throughout Toledo. Its distinctive Mudéjar style gives it a completely different character from the monastery you visited earlier.
The next stop is the Church of Santo Tomé and a work by El Greco. Here, art offers another way to experience Toledo. The artist lived and worked in the city for many years, and his work has become an important part of its identity.
After the guided walking tour, you will have free time to explore Toledo at your own pace. There is no set route to follow, so you can take a leisurely walk through the historic centre and discover places beyond those included in the guided tour.
